No Mystery In Black History

This interactive program is filled with story, rhythm, history, and song. Featuring a call and response song followed by “An African Drum Story,” Queen Nur introduces various drums from West Africa and describes their communal importance. Engagement continues with Black History in the U.S. through freedom stories, civil rights chants, poetry, music and empowerment tales. Featured are: Henry Box Brown, Stage Coach Mary, MLK, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, John Lewis, Fannie Lou Hamer, Jackie Robinson and Mamie Peanut Johnson.

Karen “Queen Nur” Abdul-Malik is a nationally renowned storyteller and teaching artist. Queen has performed in venues from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to Equity Theater on Broadway, from the National Black Storytelling Festival to the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro.

This Event is free to schools in Camden, NJ.
